Vacancy: Senior R&D Specialist or Technical Leader, PhD (M/F)
Company: leading company situated in the Netherlands (its name will be disclosed upon your request).
Department: Research & Engineering Sciences – IC&C (Inorganic Chemistry and Catalysis) within the Core R&D.
Reporting to/hierarchy: The Research Leader.
Function details: This well experienced person will be responsible for leading research efforts in the general area of heterogeneous catalysis, with responsibility for programs focusing on synthesis, characterization, and testing of new heterogeneous catalytic materials for chemical processes. In addition, this person will be asked to lead efforts to advance fundamental science within heterogeneous catalyst synthesis, characterization, and reaction mechanisms. This role will be within the High Throughput Research (HTR) group and will involve application of HTR tools, methods, and techniques to advance heterogeneous catalysis and alternative feedstocks programs.
Expectations for this role include:
Maintain excellent knowledge of inorganic synthesis, catalysis chemistry, and chemical processes.
Apply and leverage technical skills and techniques for the preparation, characterization, and evaluation of heterogeneous catalytic materials.
Work well independently, on teams, and in leading (local or remote) project teams.
Identify new chemistries/business areas that can be impacted by heterogeneous catalysis.
Develop experimental programs to address these new needs.
Increase fundamental scientific knowledge as applied to heterogeneous catalysis within the organization.
Mentor and develop researchers within the organization.
Document work in a timely fashion in data books, internal reports, patent disclosures, and external publications as appropriate.
Communicate results and progress to technical teams, supervision, management, business leadership, and externally through oral presentations.
Stay for a minimum of 5 years in this job.
Education and qualifications:
PhD in Inorganic or Organometallic Chemistry, heterogeneous catalysis (or homogeneous catalysis with appropriate experience), Chemical Engineering (with appropriate chemistry experience).
Recognized leader in the field of, preferably heterogeneous, catalysis with e.g. publications in renowned international magazines or patents.
9-15 years industrial/academic experience in heterogeneous catalysis is desired.
Experience with common analytical instruments and techniques, such as GC, HPLC, FT-IR, UV-VIS, MS, etc.
Experience with other characterization methods such as TGA, DSC, SEM, XRD, XRF, Chemisorption, TPO, TPD, BET, NMR, etc.
Experience with the construction and operation of lab scale reactor systems.
Familiar with data visualization software is a plus. Willing to learn XML, Visual Basic, and instrument control software.
Power Point, Excel, Word.
Previous experience with HTR tools and programs is desired, but not required.

Mobility/travel: 5 to 10 % travelling time is foreseen.
